Tanya Williams Wetenhall will discuss the imagery and historic significance of 19th-century Russian tapestry-woven shawls.  She operatesTanya Williams Art Services in Sarasota, Florida, where she researches and appraises textiles, dress and couture, as well as Russian fine and decorative art.

Wetenhall received a B.A. in Russian Language and Literature (with a minor in Fine Art) and a certificate in Appraisal Studies at New York University; and a M.A. in Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory and Museum Practice at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

She has worked as a fashion and textile writer for HSN (Home Shopping Network). In 2008, Wetenhall contributed research in English to the retrospective on Antwerp 6+ fashion designer Martin Margiela at the Mode Museum (MoMu) in Antwerp. In 2009, she was exhibition designer for Muriel King: Artist of Fashion at The Fashion Institute of Technology.

Wetenhall has taught courses in textiles, fashion, art history, Russian art and architecture and Italian. She is a  member of the Textile Society of America, the Costume Society of America, the Costume Society of the United Kingdom, the Appraisers Association of America and the Hajji Baba Club of New York.

Tickets are $10 for the general public; the lecture is free to Friends of Textiles members and Florida Tech students.
